CONSERVATORS BUREAU is a Non Governmental Development Group registered in the United Republic of Tanzania with certificate No. 152555 of 23rdJune, 2005.  It operates as a National Conservation and Development Agency for:

2.               BACKGROUND

CONSERVATORS BUREAU is an association of professionals with expertise in affiliated operational fields including the following:

 Biological resources & diversity conservation

 Habitats & human settlement management

CONSERVATORS BUREAU primary objectives are to "Propagate, Promote and Enhance the Conservation and Sustainable Management" of habitats, biological resources and their diversity, energy resources and environment in the varying ecosystems.

Being an operational Development Group, CONSERVATORS BUREAU can achieve these objectives by reaching to the various stakeholders whose interest groups are sensitised and encouraged to establish formal affiliate Community Based Groups (CBOs), Community Interest/Pressure Groups (CIGs) and Village Organisation Groups (VDOs). The groups become part and parcel of the network in the implementation of the interventions.

3. MISSION

The mission of CONSERVATORS BUREAU is that nature, environment and        bio-diversity are conserved for sustainable     development and    mankind            heritage. CONSERVATORS BUREAU works to:

 Sensitise the public on issues to sustainable natural resources management, environmental and bio-diversity conservation, habitats and human settlement management at grass-root, local government and central government levels

 Propagate and advocate for sustainable natural resources management at all societal levels

  Promote and advocate for proper water and land use practices through appropriate land use management at all community levels

 Participate in identifying, designing and implementation of intervention measures for rehabilitating and conserving local habitats degraded environment and ecosystems.

 Promote and advocate for the adoption and use of appropriate and environmentally friendly industrial, urban and rural house -hold technologies.

  Participate in identification, design and implementation of community social and economic development schemes.

  Propagate and advocate for planned human settlement and management thereof.

  Advocate for the National Policy Changes and enactment of by-laws to facilitate the environmental and bio-diversity conservation and management of habitats and settlement.

4. GOALS AND OBJECTIVES

The above mission statements in effect also spell out CONSERVATORS Bureau’s goals, the objectives of which are aimed at being achieved. They are as follows:

  To create awareness through the entire social and economic structures so that appropriate intervention measures are taken towards rehabilitation, conservation and management of habitats and settlements, natural resources and bio-diversity, the environment and the ecosystems in general.

  To reverse the current practices those promote the degradation of the environment, habitats and ecosystems.

  To involve the local communities in the process of intervention in the conservation and rehabilitation of degraded environment, habitats and settlement.

  To collaborate with national institutions, international organisations, private and other non-governmental organisations in the Agency activities through information exchange, experience sharing, implementation and research agreements.

  To conduct research and studies into problem areas, which the Agency is convinced are inadequately understood, neglected or inappropriately managed.

6. ACTIVITIES AND SERVICES

Through collaboration with relevant government institutions, local and international organisations, partners and affiliate groups, CONSERVATORS BUREAU activities are countrywide. These activities by-and- large revolve around the core areas outlined in the clause 5 above.

In view of fact that most of its activities are conservation and development oriented, the agency takes initiatives to identify problems and problem areas on which intervention measures are discussed and reviewed with the concerned communities/community based groups and relevant government institutions. Eventually, technical and/or financial proposals are prepared and submitted to the relevant institutions or donor agencies for possible funding and implementation of the proposed intervention measures. With this approach, CONSERVATORS BUREAU can participate in relevant government and donor sponsored programmes and projects in various capacities including Consultative Capacity, Research Work, Implementing Agency, Contractors, Sub-Contractors, Monitoring and Evaluation as partnerships in the management of specific projects.
